FAQs

What is Promovita®?

Promovita® is a daily high fibre digestive supplement containing the active ingredient galacto-oligosaccharide (GOS).

What are Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS)?

GOS is a prebiotic carbohydrate derived from lactose, a natural component of cow’s milk. It is a type of prebiotic fibre, which reaches the lower intestine intact, where it acts as a food source for gut friendly bacteria. It is produced using an enzymatic process, resulting in a sweet translucent syrup.

What does Promovita® do?

Promovita® works by supporting the growth of gut friendly bacteria, such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, in your digestive system helping them to thrive. These bacteria, found naturally in the gut, help us to digest food and absorb nutrients. Promovita®feeds the friendly bacteria in your gut and reaches the lower intestine intact.

What are the benefits of taking Promovita®?

By taking Promovita®, you nourish your beneficial gut bacteria which in turn help to reduce bad bacteria, thereby restoring balance in the digestive system.

What is a prebiotic?

Prebiotics are non-digestible oligosaccharides that beneficially affect the growth of ‘gut friendly’ bacteria in the intestine.

How is a prebiotic different to a probiotic?

Probiotics are live micro-organisms which maintain or restore the beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract. They can be added to foods, such as yogurt, or taken as food supplements, and are often described as 'good' or 'friendly' bacteria. Prebiotics are non-live, non-digestible carbohydrates which feed the probiotics stimulating their growth within the gut, helping them to thrive.

What should I expect when taking Promovita® for the first time?

You may experience some changes in the way your gut feels as the GOS starts to increase the levels of beneficial bacteria but this should reduce after about a week.

Are there any side-effects of Promovita®?
